Baseball

Hello fellows,

The Blue Ash library is siutated in the city center. It is a small library and partly specially furnished for children. For better grapping the shelves are located deeper. In case of having a break from reading the kids can play with toys on the ground.

During our stay us was told to take one children's book, that we should read. I have chosen a book about baseball. It discribes the long history of this sport from being an reaction against all British until the hype nowadays. Negros weren"t allowed to play baseball for a long time. It changed when there was a lack of good players. Therefore baseball has developed to be a uniting sport, where skin colour doesn't matter. All kinds of children will appreciate reading this book even with different backgrounds. Furthermore the book gives an overview about the rules, which are really importnant for this game. From my perspective it was written at a level I still was able to read, but for native speakers it is proper up from the age of 10. Our host city is also mentioned in my reading, there was founded the first full professional baseball team all over the US.

Children text's educate the readers with additional information from pictures, so they can extend their vocabulary and are influenced by cultural values so that children already can understand for instance love and friendship. In detail my book provides reasons why baseball is so attractive.

  1. Hi Thomas,

I think you chose a very interesting book - one that captures a very important part of American culture. I'm glad that Cincinnati was in the book too. Were you surprised with anything that you learned about the history of baseball?

    See you tomorrow,
    Jody
